A number one dance record might be AI-generated, credited to a mysterious persona, and still perfectly playable in a real DJ set. That sounds like a joke, but it’s quickly becoming the new normal, and we’re unpacking what it means for working DJs who build trust for a living.
We jump from that AI music rabbit hole into something every wedding DJ recognizes instantly: the craft of making a pivot when plans change. We react to a vendor reel that nails wedding storytelling by showing the “how we got here” instead of a highlight reel of perfect shots, and we talk about why this kind of content marketing converts better than endless clips of blending behind the decks. If you’re trying to book more weddings, your ability to communicate calm problem-solving is a competitive advantage.
Then we get painfully honest with story time: two mistakes in a row at a wedding, one on the mic and one on the music load, followed by an on-the-spot recovery that keeps the dance floor alive. From there, we go crate-digging with purpose, using 2016 wedding hits as a shortcut to crowd psychology, and sharing how the right DJ edits let you play the same song differently for doors open, dinner, and peak hour.
We close with a practical “question of the day” for mobile DJs: when a planner asks you to release tables for a buffet, do you keep the peace or hold the line? We break down when it helps the timeline, when it hurts the vibe, and how to do it with more hospitality and less mic fatigue.
If you got value from this, subscribe, share it with a DJ friend, and leave a review so more wedding DJs can find the show.

Welcome And What’s Ahead
SPEAKER_04What's up, everybody? Back again. Beyond the GJ Booth podcast. Batch. Batch. Presented by Elite XS at AI.com. I'm Brian B. I'm Joe Bun. Glad you guys are here. Boothheads. Every Wednesday we drop these episodes and uh we got a doozy today. We do have a doozy. Yeah, we got some good stuff. You planned out a banger? Yeah. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Ron's a planner. I'm more of the uh idea floater.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you guys. The court jester. You contributed to this.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
Real Support Behind Lead XS AI
SPEAKER_04But I'm pumped about having Lead Excess on as a sponsor because we actually you actually use the product. I'm a user. So let me ask you this question. If you've been when you've been using it and you have to make any adjustments to it, what is that process like? Like how does that get done? Do you actually are you actually talking to Craig? Is there a chat bot that you have to deal with to deal with all that stuff? Walk us through kind of like how that gets done. I know you're not really in the admin side, but yeah.
SPEAKER_03I mean, there's there's two things that happen really on from the lead access side of things. So if we have we want to change something in the conversation that it's having with the lead, or if we add something, a new product or a new service, or we change our pricing, or any of that stuff, we just send them email and they are Johnny on the spot about responding. Is it Craig himself or is it his guys? Craig or his team? Okay. So it's an actual human. It's a definitely human. It's definitely a human. We're not getting botted by our own bot. It's not a bot war. Yeah. Um so that happens pretty quickly within, I would say, a day or so that if we need to make any changes. But also, we do get emails weekly or maybe every other week from Craig and or his team about changes they've implemented just within the system itself. Okay. Things that are gonna help us, things that they've changed. They've seen. Yeah. And I'll and Randy, obviously, that kind of does the admin side of things, he gets them as well. So I just kind of glance at them. Randy kind of addresses them or just reads them and make sure he's up to date on whatever changes there were. And it's normally not something that we need to relearn, you know, how to drive or relearn the wheel. It's just an advantage move for us. I mean, it's like any other software. Yeah. I mean, if I hit right now update all the apps that I have, I mean, every one of them's gonna there'll be 50 of them. Right. Because I don't have it on auto update, you know what I mean? But there's always with any sort of software, even with with event sync that we do, we're always pushing updates based on user experience.
SPEAKER_04But uh, what I love about theirs is that they're not just saying, hey, here's the software, good luck. Yeah, figure out the update. Like they have people on the other line that will actually help you out. Yeah, it's not like that. It's not like that. Well, if you want to check it out, yeah, go to lead access. That's E-X, C-E-S-S-A-I.com. Yep. Lead XS AI.com. Yeah, check it out. Yeah. There we go.
Patreon Bangers And Member Shoutouts
SPEAKER_04Well, we have a Patreon where we put a lot of stuff. Every episode we've been dropping stuff in this batch, haven't we?
SPEAKER_03We've got we've got Serato history, we've got banger lists, and more importantly, we've got actual MP3s of hard to find edits that usually Brian has curated from the depths of the internet. So if you want the best bangers that not every douchebag DJ in the country is playing, then you need to be a member of Patreon.com slash beyond the DJ Booth Podcast. And what shout out one of the benefits is you get that shout out. You get a fucking shout out on the best podcast in the world. Yeah. Who we got this week? My boy, Jeff Mater, the man, DJ Shine, who's coming to the DJ Collective. Yes, he told me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Straight out of Auburn, New Hampshire.
SPEAKER_04I've been to Auburn, Alabama, but I don't think I've been to Auburn, Hampshire. No Hampshire. I thought he was from Boston for some reason. It's close. He does service that area in a little bit too. Uh-oh.
DJ Collective Speaker Surprise
SPEAKER_04We got a DJC announcement. Has this even come out yet on the socials? Uh uh will by the time this drops. Okay, right, right. We got a smoke show, apparently.
SPEAKER_03We got a banger.
SPEAKER_04We better be in agreement with that.
SPEAKER_03My my baby, my baby boo is speaking at the conference this year. So Ashley Lou Kirkman. Why did she we that's quite the name?
SPEAKER_04I thought she was gonna talk about like contracts and legal stuff. No, she's going to make a right turn, which I think is great.
SPEAKER_03Because I think she wants to go more into the speaking circuit as she progresses in her career.
SPEAKER_04Well, what I love about her is that she's got the corporate job, which she holds down. Yes. But she also is a small business owner. Yes, sir. She sees both of those things at the same time. Owns a spin studio as well. So her talk, which she kind of gave me a little preview on.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she we were just talking about this this morning, ironically. Okay. Well, go ahead. Share. No, no, I don't remember the title now. You're not there, or something like that. You're not done yet.
SPEAKER_04Or I think it's like plan, you can make all the plans to succeed, but inevitably the plan goes awry at some point. It was called you're not done yet, or something like that. Yeah, something like that. So how do you adapt when things inevitably change? Is kind of where she's going to it. And um, her whole big point, I think, is that uh when the goal isn't uh the what did she say? So the goal is to obviously succeed, but when it doesn't go to plan, how can you make sure you don't fail? So I think it's gonna be good. Good shit.
SPEAKER_03It's like 20, 25 minutes, something like that. Yeah, quick banger. A little quick banger, yeah. Yeah, yeah. All right. Shout out to Ashley.
SPEAKER_04Let's hit the pop culture
The AI Song That Went Number One
SPEAKER_04minute.
SPEAKER_03Do it.
SPEAKER_08Brian B. Joe Bond, dropping heat just for fun. Pop talk spinning like a wreck of spine.
unknownWoo!
SPEAKER_08Pop culture clash where the stories collide. Two DJs bringing the flavor world wild.
SPEAKER_04Alright, I sent this to you on the socials, but I figured we should bring it up because you were saying how great this track was. Our boy. Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_03Trust me. I know what it is. But everybody fucking realize it on there.
SPEAKER_04This guy, I thought he was like doing it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But apparently. We'll see. He's AID out.
SPEAKER_00This song is AI. It's made by this old Hungarian lady. I'm serious because it's Hugel, who's one of the biggest names in dance music, the singer Alternate, and someone called ML Angel. And when you go to her Instagram, it's this Hungarian lady who, up until a few months ago, was promoting herself as a Reiki healer. Now her Spotify bio says she's also a deep house producer. But the credits only list the producers of the song as Hugel and Late Nine, the production duo behind a lot of Hugel's music. But Bernadette Gangjo is credited as a composer and lyricist. Searching that name, I found Bernadette's personal Instagram. So ML Angel is really Bernadette Gangjo. But how did a Hungarian Reiki healer with no music career end up on a song that went to number one in the world? Moving to the Sun is the biggest song in the UK. My theory is Bernadette got into making AI videos of herself to promote her online Reiki business. Then she experimented with making music using AI and created the original version of Moving to the Sun. That song went viral, so Hujel got his production team to rebuild it and brought in Alternate to sing it, but kept Emil Angel as a featured artist. That's speculation. What isn't speculation is this whole situation is super weird. Now that's a two-hat fact.
SPEAKER_02It's the whole shortcut thing.
SPEAKER_00Dude.
SPEAKER_02You got a short career.
SPEAKER_03I think so. Did you send me this video or somebody? I was like, this is fucking crazy. Right? And the fact that he went down the rabbit hole and found this old lady from bears for hungry. Miguel. What?
SPEAKER_04It's crazy. Is it real? I mean, I I'm just taking it at face value here. I don't know. Right. But I I mean, someone went down the rabbit hole here to look for this stuff. Biggest song of the house song of the year. Not even a question.
SPEAKER_03Not even a question. And it might not even be real, bro.
SPEAKER_02So now what? Do they take like what time is now?
SPEAKER_03Well, they gave that girl credit. Right. She got credited. So she gets she's getting.
SPEAKER_02But like, does the guy win awards now? You know what I'm saying? Like, probably.
SPEAKER_04It's just getting so like you can't tell the difference. No. It's crazy. It used to be able to, and it's just getting better and better.
SPEAKER_03So I don't know. Colin Colin sent me a video yes last night, and it was insane. It was a guy, and he and he kept walking behind a pole, and every time he'd walk out, and he'd go, same voice, but it was like he he turned into a black guy. Then he walked back behind the pole. He was like, and he goes, These are fictional characters. I just gave it a prompt. You know, he goes, Pretty soon, you're gonna be watching videos and not know if it's real or not, if you should listen to it or not, who the educator is or not. Like I'm I'm I'm I I guess the only thing I'm really glad about is I got in before all this stuff so people now know my face and know that I'm a real person. Right. And that we're real people, and that like I own a real DJ company. I am giving you real advice based on 40 years of experience. Like, I'm so glad that I'm me before this shit comes out. Yeah. Yeah.
A Wedding Pivot Told The Right Way
SPEAKER_03Fucking T2000.
SPEAKER_04So uh I thought we'd go move to a little more wedding-esque, way different than Philippines uh wedding that show. I showed you earlier. This guy is he I've worked with him before, his name's Pesci Cash. He's amazing. What a great last name, by the way. Um but he he did this thing where he uh had to make a pivot because of the weather. Okay. But then I liked the innovation with the immersive experience. And I thought that it was really cool the way he made the video because it wasn't about putting all the onus on him that he made this happen, like so many videos do. It was very classy. Okay, check it out.
SPEAKER_05So it was supposed to be a gorgeous 70 degrees and sunny, but then Mother Nature had other ideas for us. We had to make some modification. Who is this? What's supposed to be called open? You actually know this guy? Yeah, we're for the fun. These are such custom-sized tables. We are sewing all of the linen for ourselves on site.
SPEAKER_04None of that supposed to exist for her.
SPEAKER_05The idea with those planters are they're herbs. Guests are gonna cut their own herbs as part of an immersive dining experience, but they're going to start cut their own herbs. No way. That's cool.
SPEAKER_03No DJ.
SPEAKER_01We are Brazilians, no matter what. Reno shine our goddamn wind. We can do it.
SPEAKER_04Where's this guy from? He's from New York, New York. Uh-huh. Um, do you know where that wedding was? I have no idea. Okay. I'm guessing upstate. Yeah. But I don't know. Yeah. But what I loved about this video was the storytelling. Yeah. Like the storytelling behind it. Yeah. Was like we always show great pictures of you know, dance floor or whatever, but it's how did you get there?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And I think that was a great example of how it's a great reel. It didn't feel like I was tuned in. Yeah. He caught me right on the hook. Right. And I just think like that kind of content is like invaluable and easy, quite frankly.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it's just he he's telling the story of walking around with an umbrella, and they just laid that as the voiceover. Yeah. They cut back to them him a couple of times under the umbrella, but it's basically just this gorgeous wedding with him telling the story of how it happened.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it's easy to make. Right. Right. Anyway, just want to throw that out there. You don't have to stand behind the decks making blends sometimes.
SPEAKER_04I'll leave it at that. Um let's see. Oh, I think we already hit one of these. Let's hit the story time.
Two On-Mic Mistakes And The Save
SPEAKER_04So I did a wedding. Okay. Had two whiffs basically mistakes. Uh-oh. Rarely make them. But I'm gonna I'm gonna call it out on myself. Go ahead. So I c my recovery though was epic. I was in Florida. Actually, uh the sanctuary, the place you've been before, your favorite venue. So, dude, I went from Boston, flew in day after this. I didn't have much sleep. I was all the way there where you listen to on a train back to Boston. My I was on fumes, though. Yeah. On fumes. Right. Which I don't recommend. No, it's not great. But um I go to this wedding and there's a toast happening. The the the sequence was they did the ceremony, we did a flip, the whole thing. Okay. Then we did dinner, we did a toast, then we did the formality dances, and then open dancing. Okay. And we danced a long time and it was epic. It was a great, great dance party. But the toast, they had one toaster, which okay, no big deal. And I somehow uh transcribed the incorrectly that relation of the toaster to them. Oh no. So she looks exactly like the bride. I mean, could be spitting image, but it's not the sister of the bride. Uh-huh. It's the sister of the groom. Now I had that written down correctly on my thing. Okay. This was just me not looking. Yep. I remember the name. Yeah. Let's welcome up Kayla, I think was her name. Sister of the Bride. Sister of the Bride. And then there's a And it's and everyone's like tuned in. It's like not in the mix of three other toasts. This is the toast. And the groom goes, actually, it's my sister. And I go, Oh shit. I'm thinking in my head, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So I go, Did I say sister of the bride? I meant sister-in-law of the bride. Oh. That was my pig.
SPEAKER_03Nice save. Slick. Rick.
SPEAKER_04Woo! Still didn't feel great. No. But I at least covered it. And uh she did the toast. She did great. Then they go into their first dance, and then they go, Oh, I'm sorry, not they didn't the first dance. They had already done that. They did the two parents' dances, and then we were going into it. They had the father-daughter, mother's son. While the mother's son's happening, I'm like looking at the crowd, going, okay, these people want to go because I had a great dinner, but I had some old gray hair, so I'm gonna go into dancing queen. Have the song ready to go. Okay. Wait till it quiets down. After that, everyone gives applause. We're gonna open the dance floor. Boom, hit the song. I still had the father-daughter song loaded in the other thing. What was it? 100 years. 100 years by five for the book. No, no, no, no. We're gonna open the dance floor. We want you all to come out. Oh, not five for fighting.
SPEAKER_03I thought you meant that um Christina Perry, a thousand years. Well that would have been worse. But five for fighting is still not a cursor. It's bad.
SPEAKER_04And I'm just like, oh, I and I had my cursor on it. I just didn't bring it up. You know, I had left it in the bat in the bank. So I quickly said, I made a joke about it or something. I said, like, you know, you didn't think I was really gonna play it to open this dance. Why did I get your guys' attention? Slammed right into slammed right into dancing queen. And I will say that was the move because it automatically everyone just came right in and they didn't have a dead dance board. But the whole time I'm just going, I couldn't have made two worse airs back to back.
SPEAKER_03Wow. Did you start to panic like that you were gonna shit the dance set? I did.
SPEAKER_04I mean, my head was like so into that mistake, even though it wasn't horrible, horrible.
SPEAKER_03It's not horrible, right?
SPEAKER_04But still, I'm like, oh, now I gotta work twice as hard. But I had such a great dinner set, and I was like, Yeah, I've set this up perfectly for myself. Right. And I just crashed and burned on the verbals, on the verbals, verbal cues. So anyway, learning experience for we all make them.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, absolutely, dude. I posted one the other day, and people were like, Man, appreciate it. Shout out for you being real. I'm like, dude, they can't all be bangers, right? I mean, we talked about that party, the public party. I mean, yeah, I wanted to play for a big crowd, right? Didn't happen. Right. Let's hit some music.
2016 Wedding Floor Weapons And Edits
SPEAKER_06Great, fine's great, finds digging deep for the good times, great, fine's great, finds hidden gems in the rewind.
SPEAKER_04So you came up with this idea of, and I think it's because of true experience, 2016 is kind of crushing for you ten years ago. It on the dance floor at weddings?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it it was brought about by the um Alice Beech thing that you booked me on.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_03And I think I I think it was Drew that I was talking to. I was like, eh, you know, I just I don't know how to play this thing. It's a public event. I don't ever play for public events. And he was like, just take whatever year it is in minus 10. And I was like, okay. And he goes, anything for 2016 kills right now. And I'm like, I would agree. And I go, that's very interesting. I don't know why, the psychology behind it, but he wasn't wrong. I mean, that was probably I mean, I'm not saying that exact year, but around that time frame, right, those songs crushed at that event. And at any event that I'm playing right now.
SPEAKER_04So I did the the chat GPT that said pull up all the best bangers from 2016. Okay. Crossing over alternative to uh rock, hop pop, hip hop, top 40. Yeah. So I'll show you the list right now. Okay. And I was just curious if you have any edits. I didn't come up with this ranking, they did. So this is them coming up with this. So they went with one dance. Are you still playing that track? No. Either. I was surprised it kind of went to number one. Even number two can't stop the feeling. Are you playing that track? I take with it. I definitely play closer. Closer's crushing. Yeah. What about work? No, it's been a while.
SPEAKER_03By Rihanna. Uh cheap thrills, I play all the time. I play cheap thrills sometimes like um early or like it's just the tempo's a little slow, I guess.
SPEAKER_04So here's an edit that I use. Okay. This is with Ponda Replay. By the way, all these edits will be in the Patreon back room. The actual file. The actual file.
SPEAKER_03The actual MP3. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04If you play this one. Especially if the wedding is on a Friday night. Yeah. This beat's a lot more driving. Yep. Put him on.
SPEAKER_03But I like this version. Works all the time. You know what's gonna be the worst thing in the world if it comes out that Sean Paul's from like Raleigh, North Carolina, or something like that.
SPEAKER_02We already found out he's like Chinese.
SPEAKER_03Oh, look into it, bro.
SPEAKER_02Oh man. Only a sliver of oh, Jamaica.
SPEAKER_07Oh, wow. Oh no.
SPEAKER_04That's crazy.
SPEAKER_03I wish you hadn't told me that.
SPEAKER_04You playing This Is What You Came For?
SPEAKER_03Rihanna?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for sure. What version are you playing? OG. Okay. I'll give you two. Okay. Two little edits for you. First one is um by DJ. I mean chart busters or something. I'm not like it's not a bastardization track. This is a doors open one that I think could work for this kind of a crowd gets into 2010s. This is with the bucket heads. Okay. Uh which is that street player track. Yeah. Oh, not well, it's the same one. Okay. It's the same hook, but this is DJ Scene's version. Yeah. Doors open, babe. Let people know you know what's up. Yeah, yeah. Ooh, this stuff up.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04Shout out DJ Seen. Like, it's not one of those ones that's like you have to play during peak hour. You can play this early. But if you did want to play it during peak hour, I have another version for you. Okay. This is the Janai mix. This is with um, I think it's called Lasting Lover. Yeah, the Loompa Loompa. This is Lasting Lover Edit with uh Sigala. So here you go. This is peak hour.
SPEAKER_06This is what you came for. Lightning.
SPEAKER_04We got two different ways to play it.
SPEAKER_03Let me hear the drop. Let me hear the drop before I judge me. Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Right? Very jersey. But it works. Yeah. I've used it in both settings. So you don't have to always play it early. You got that's why you gotta have a a deep bag. Uh what else are you playing on these? So you playing some. I don't think you can go wrong with any beaver. Chain smokers in general. Any any chain smoker. Any chain smokers, any beaver crushes. Yeah, you playing losers love yourself still? Um, no, because I just probably don't have the right edit. Okay. What else we got on this chart? Let's move to the next set here. Hotline bling.
SPEAKER_03Uh I would drop that maybe.
SPEAKER_04Just like, you know, just the cheese, I do you love me. Of any Bruno Mars, this is the one I'm playing. If it's not bad. 24?
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04This is the only one that I I would play. Yeah, same. Uh sleeper here, number 18. Side to side. Here it is with um cheap thrills. Okay. Little reggae flip.
SPEAKER_06I'm talking to you. See you standing up a little bit with your body.
SPEAKER_04If you're in that tempo, this actually goes over really well when I have played. Really? I don't play it all the time. Could be the right crowd. But if they're in that pop pocket, like you can go from close this into closer or some of those other ones because they're around the same tempo. This before Ariana went like so much.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Once you did Wicked, it was over. Meaning that what? She's very strange. That lady that was in Wicked with her, they got weird. Oh, okay. Alright.
SPEAKER_02Are you on it?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. You playing Broccoli?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_04You gotta be playing that. Really? Yeah. Crushes. Really? Crushes. I used to love this song. Oh. This was you play verse two. Verse two on that. Okay.
SPEAKER_07Alright.
SPEAKER_04Uh what else? On the next. Let's go to the next one here. Uh Chance the Rapper, No Problem with Little Wayne. All the way up? Still playing that one? No, but I used to love that. All the way up. Yeah. Too good. There's another Drake one. That one's a good one. Um Fast Car. Play Fast Car, that version? No. The Jonas Blue? I don't play that version. I never played that version. No, me neither. I never liked it. But I have a version of it that you should be playing. This is also Doors Open. This is by Tob Talk. Came out the same era. No one would know it's not Jonas Blue. Okay. I like it because it's very clean. It's not too house driven. Yeah. It beats light. Doors open.
SPEAKER_06Doors open.
SPEAKER_03I love this. Real good. It's got that like Tego-ish. Yes. That's why I say it's gotta be doors open-ish. That flow rider, my house. I I'll play that. Okay. Welcome to my own. And it's got I got that edit where it goes into um House Party, Sam Hunt. Okay, we'll put that in the Patreon. That's a great one. Add yours. Can't remember who made it. Might have been Scooter.
SPEAKER_04Next, next slide here. 36. You playing this girl? Tongues? Uh I do sometimes. It still works. Yeah. So I have a version of it with that broccoli track to bring it down to 70 beats per minute. Half timed it. This is by uh this is by DJ control.
SPEAKER_06Woo!
SPEAKER_04I'll either go from this into broccoli or the other way around. To flip it. This is uh isn't that good?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Did we have control at DJC one time? No, I think you're thinking of conflict. Damn, dude. 2016 was nuts. So many good ones. I mean, weekend, I feel it coming. Yeah. And the name of love is another one, too. Yeah, that Martin Garrigs.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That goes crazy. 1975. I I play that every now and then, still, the sound. Oh, I love that song.
SPEAKER_03That's a great doors open song.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. How about the next uh three or four here? Um that Haley Steinfeld. Yeah. You gotta be playing that. Short starving? Yeah. Here you go. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Dinner to say things that scare me. I love this song.
SPEAKER_04But it could all you could use it in dancing for the right original original, yeah. But short, I only play this in the chorus and I'm out. You drop this to a bit.
SPEAKER_06I was so much younger yesterday. At the end, it's a great song.
SPEAKER_04Not like earlier.
unknownI didn't know that.
SPEAKER_03It's like a damn very monkey.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And one that actually came out in 2015, but I I still credit to the other Chain Smoker song, uh, Roses. Are you playing that? I love that song so much. I haven't brought it back though. You gotta do. I was shocked at how much sing-along there was with it. Did you uh original version it? Original versioned it, and then I made a I did a segue. You like the segue. Outcast Roses. No. Here we go. This is the original. So good. So good. That's where I went to.
SPEAKER_03Wow. All America read yet.
SPEAKER_04You made this? No, I didn't put a blend of it out there, and I put thumb together.
SPEAKER_03Fuck yeah, man. I gotta have this. Will it be Dare I say it's in the Patreon? This goes crazy.
SPEAKER_06Crazy.
SPEAKER_03Didn't go into your pop-umps. Hit the um sugar we're going down after this. Yeah, all of that. And uh my own my own worst enemy. Oh, dude. That's kind of how I got into it.
SPEAKER_04They don't expect it because it just kind of comes out of nowhere, but it works. Yeah. Right key. Yes. All of this. Woo! So anyway.
SPEAKER_03So those tracks? Yeah. You know where to get them. Patreon.com slash beyond the DJ Booth Podcast. There you go. I might go in there and get me some. Am I a member? Yeah. I mean, we'll make you, we'll get you a little code.
SPEAKER_04A little code. A little trial. Let's hit the question of the
Should DJs Release Buffet Tables
SPEAKER_04day.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04Question of the day. Marty Nightingale. Here we go. That son of a gun. What do you do if a planner asks you to release tables for dinner buffets? Keep the peace and do it? Or do you hold the line that it's their duty? I don't understand this kind of stuff. Like, DJs get so worked up over this stuff. Like, I don't understand it. Like, what's the big deal? Is it me? Am I like oversimplifying this? Is there a problem releasing tables? No, I don't do it on the mic. I do not do it on the microphone. That's what I think he's saying. But you can still dismiss tables just by going around. But then you're not gonna be able to play your dinner set. Oh, I do it in between. Bro, I this last wedding I did. Yeah, I'm kind of glad I did do it because I dismissed, I said, hey, listen, we're gonna we have a a buffet dinner tonight. It's over here to my left. It's double-sided. I can explain that part right off the way.
SPEAKER_07Sure.
SPEAKER_04But rather than having you all stand in a long line and wait for your food, we're gonna ask you just to stay at your tables. Hang out, enjoy the conversation, enjoy the drinks, enjoy the music. I will personally be around to let you know when it's your turn to make your way towards the table or towards the buffet. Okay. So uh hit a song, whatever. I'm not heavily mixing dinner. I mean, I'm I'm programming it, don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04But so I sent the first one out to go do the thing. Well, all the plates are on the far side. I didn't notice that. Okay. So these people are some of them are going this way around it, and they're like, oh, it's a confusion. So then I was like, oh, okay, I need to make sure the next table that I dismiss that I tell them the tables, I'm sorry, the plates are on the far side. So everybody start over there. Don't come this way. Otherwise, we're gonna make dinner twice. There's 250 people. We're gonna make dinner twice as long as people are trying to go both ways. It's like it allowed me to make it work. Plus, I'm like jumping down like a little, like a little excited boy, just trying to let these people out. You know what I mean? Like, hey, let me get down there and just make a table, you know.
SPEAKER_03And uh grab a roll while you're down there and get a hot buttered biscuit off the buffet while you're down there.
SPEAKER_04Get the butter balls, get one of those nice butterballs. Butterballs, but it I don't see the problem with it. Like, I I understand like it may if you were gonna eat, that would be a problem. Because obviously now you're spending time in the first few. You're not an eater. I'm not. I eat afterwards, yeah. If I'm even eating at all.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But I don't need that. I'd rather program the music and it just shows them that I'm working. I'm not just sitting there just, you know, trying to hide behind my console with a little, you know, breast of chicken.
SPEAKER_03Okay, let me just clarify a couple things. Are you doing it because somebody asked you to do it, or are you doing it because you want to do it? Because I still think it falls to the planner or the case.
SPEAKER_04I would let them do it if they wanted to do it. If the planner wanted to do it, yeah, no problem. But if I get asked, I don't think it's an inconvenience. What if you got asked to do it on the mic? That I would suggest heavily. And I've never had pushback, not one time. Whenever anyone's asked me to do it on the mic, I say, hey, I really don't think it's for this level of event, even if it's not that level, yeah, I still think saying that makes them feel good. Like the last thing we want to do is start calling table numbers. Yeah. Literally, I can walk up to the to the table, it feels more personalized. Yeah. It feels less like we're having a blue light special at a ball. Whatever. Like this makes it a little bit. And then what are we talking about here? Ten tables, maybe? I just don't see the big like to-do about make by, oh, it's gotta be the planner's job to do it.
SPEAKER_03I don't mind it.
SPEAKER_04So you're watching the line, and the line is it goes down. It only works to my advantage because if I get them, you know, feeling good that they can just hang out their tables, they don't have to feel like that pressure of having to stand in line.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And once I start to see it kind of dip, I'm like going over there to let the next one up because I want to get to dancing quick. I don't want to be sitting in dinner for 45 minutes because the planner forgot to go do it. She's doing another errand, and now we gotta wait for dinner to it. It makes the night go quicker if I'm paying attention to that stuff.
SPEAKER_03You know? I don't I don't remember the last time somebody asked me to personally do it. Normally it's either the planner or the catering team, and they say, Will you make the announcement, Joe, that we're gonna be coming around to release tables? And if they said that, I would say no problem. Now, if they said, We are short staffed, Joe, can you do this? I I would 100% do it. Because I'm like you, a yes man. But I think until hearing you say that, I might have done the mic thing, which is not the way I want to do it. Right. Coming out from behind the booth, especially because Saquon knows enough to play the dinner tracks anyway, is much better idea.
SPEAKER_04I've had so many compliments from the set has gone well from the people at the table, like you are crushing it. I'm like, I'm just playing dinner, guys. Yeah. Like, wait till we really get going. Like, I've done rapport. I feel like it's a win-win. I don't see the negative.
SPEAKER_03I only did it one time this year, and it was on the mic, but it was a country wedding, literally, like the red and white tablecloth in the middle of the country, in a tent. Like it it didn't feel out of place. Right. It literally, like the I think the groom had on like uh straight leg jeans and boots and like a hat, like really a true country wedding. So it didn't feel weird to go, all right, tables one and two, you guys can go on through. Like but at a 250-person elegant wedding in a you know restored church, it would feel weird. Right. Knowing that, you know, I've got the permission or the wherewithal to just come off the stage and do it, it makes a lot more sense now. Appreciate the tip. There we go.
