We're working on that as we're recording this. Yeah. That should be out this week. But I'm excited about what we're about to do with this. We uh are going to be doing, if you're part of this uh Patreon or part of our podcast family, we're gonna be recording a live podcast with us and two guests, which is the Das crew, and they're gonna record a podcast as well. So we're doing this on stage live. That way we don't have to batch one that week. It's good to go, and it'll be up there. Um, so the way that we've always done the conference has always been uh not just stage down kind of content. Right. You've always had that component, but over the years it's morphed into a secondary tier of like peer-to-peer, right? So we did remember when we first started off, we did the one-to-ones early on.

Right. Yeah. Last year we did these connection sessions where basically randomly the idea was you would be able to meet a bunch of different people. Right. Every group had a you you rotate through it, but you had the same hosts. Yeah, but each group we had assigned a moderator or a host. Yeah. And then we would come up with the question that everybody would talk about. Yeah. That's still gonna come back. Okay. So we got stage, we got connection sessions, a third, brand new breaking. Go on. It's called recharge circles.

So um hey, y'all steal this next year. Go ahead. The idea is you ever gone to a to a conference and you're like, man, I wish they would have talked about something that was pressing maybe in your business, and they never got to it, or it never got addressed. Okay. Or you saw the topic and you're like, oh good, I'm glad they're talking about this. And then about 10 minutes in, you realize like it's not really going where you were hoping it was gonna go. Yeah. And so you lift leave the conference and you're kind of bummed that like it didn't take place. Yeah. This is our answer to this. So what happens is go on for an hour, you will have we will have up to 10 groups. Now, people can submit, it's already happening as of taping, okay, where you can say, Hey, listen, I would like to have a group about how to charge luxury prices. Now, either you can be an expert in it, or you're just like, I just want a conversation about it. And then people can then say, Hey, I want to learn about that. So now, and they can sign up for those. Now they're they're limited to 10 people, so once 10 people fill it out, it's full. But the idea is hopefully we're getting 10 topics that we couldn't cover in our conference. That's why having the schedule out is super important. And hopefully we're hitting everybody's topic that they wanted to hear about or that they wanted to share about. Now, a couple of things about this. This isn't supposed to be a selling thing where you're selling some kind of course or whatever.

Um, it's not a presentation, no one's coming in with a you know, uh, PowerPoint or whatever. The idea is that these are just conversations, kind of like coffee chats, basically. Yeah. So, right now, why I'm saying this is that you have until September 16th, so a couple of weeks, 14 days to be uh exact, to submit your topics. We then will look them over and decide which ones make sense based on what who what people are talking about on stage. Right. And if there's doubles, yeah, we don't take that stuff out. But I love it, hopefully everybody gets to hear what they want to talk about. And if you've been passionate and you're like, dang, I've been to seven conferences over the last couple of years, haven't heard this once.

Tokyo Highlights Food And Shopping

So, dude, you've been on the road. Or you were. You just completed a tour. Almost. So you went to Japan first. Went to Japan first. Then went to Australia. Then went to Australia. Exactly. Yeah, we we it was a combo. Uh I can't remember the name of the temple. We saw multiple temples, but it was a combo of like go see a temple and then go shopping is basically what Tokyo is. And then in between, go find something delicious to eat. Like it was the culture, the people, the cleanliness, the uh the respectful nature of oh man, we did the whole omakase thing. It got a little uh it got a little out of hand. Like I would like it started pretty mild on the sushi. That's crab. That's a big crap. A whole crab. A big ass crab, yeah. And but at certain point, man, it turned the corner, and you know, it's like it was like only 10 10 stools. Like you're not getting out of it. He's making it put in front of you for uh you know two hours plus, and bro, he laid these prawns out that were still kind of flipping around. Oh, thank you.

Again, there's only eight stools in this. They have a Michelin star. Wow. I mean, we were hitting refresh like concert tickets to get a seat at this thing. Wow. And it's uh these guys are not Italian, they're Japanese, but the guy that started this, it's called something, is is Italian.

Dude, they were making these like homemade sodas. Okay. Like uh, it tasted like Coca-Cola, but it was more like ginger pepper, solid. Like soda water. And it was like a viral thing. We saw a line and I go, this is something viral. Like it was tourists, and I was like, Yeah, and it was 10 people. I was like, let's stay in here and get this soda. And it was unbelievable. And they made it in this little bag. Like Love it. It was so cool, man. What else? Oh, this dude, I had to buy this tiger jacket from him. But dude, it was like I'd seen these jackets before, like these embroidered kind of bomber jacket. I was like, I need one of these jackets, and I need a pair of Japanese denim, and I need this jacket and a pair of those onitsuka tiger shoes. Those were the only three things I needed. Yeah. So I get on Chat GPT, I'm like, who sells these jackets? And they were like, it's in this basement of the building and like Harajuku or whatever. I'm like, all right. And I walk in, dude, and I'm telling you, I can't even see this little dude back behind the register because it's just a maze of jackets. Wow. So he's like, How much do you want to spend? And I was like, I don't know, 200 bucks. So he was like, okay. What color? I was like, probably black. He's like, okay. What kind of animal? I was like, a tiger. Dude, when I'm telling you, he goes, he goes, dude. Brian. Pulls one out. He's like, I'm like, looks good to me. Wow. And I mean, I put it on, I was like, I gotta get a picture with this guy. He hit the freaking uh hang loose. He was awesome.

It just was it was it was everything I'd hoped for. I genuinely felt like I was way out of my comfort zone and out of the country. Okay. And that first hotel.

So it's like no, it's broken. Even in even in the nicest hotels, you know, your your concierge would obviously speak the best English. You know, your your cab drivers hardly at all. Uh people in the like genuine Japanese restaurants hardly at all. But like everybody, no matter of class, education level, speaks some degree of English. Yes, easy. Easy. Now, in a cab, you know, you might need to hold up the address and then type it in. Like, but for the most part, man, everybody speaks some degree of English.

And they were like, that's like a fucking anthem. They remixed it live during the conference. Wow. Okay. The other thing I noticed when I went to What is it? I don't I don't yeast extract. It's like imagine Nutella, but with salt and like fish brains. I don't know, dude. I'm making that up.

I don't the other thing I noticed is when I I was on a f the flat whites from Starbucks for a while. Yeah, they actually originated in Australia. That and I think New Zealand too, which is close by. They don't be at the next photo. This is what it looks like. Yeah. I was expecting it like in a cup like this. Yeah, no, no. No, it's like super small. Yeah. It's kind of like Saquon's coffee that he got this morning. Like that looked like a shot thing. I know. You know what I mean?

Yeah, everything was like as you drinks, usually like drip coffee black. They don't do that. It was basically like, oh, that's an Americano. Yeah, espresso. Right. Yeah. Or espresso. And then I was they do make vanilla, they do make lattes. But that flat white was like that was their go-to.

Oh, but then when that whale came out, she she perked back up and eating in the opera house is unforgettable.

Like it this job, I said nobody got into DJing because they like organizing folders. That was like that was like my last statement before the end. And I and I think it went over great, man. They put me on a panel at the end. That's so cool. I don't looks like a decent lay. I like definitely decent great room. Um mod. Yeah, it was it was kind of modern, kind of an uh how many attendees? 80. Okay, that's okay. And they were like, man, but you know, how do we make this bigger? I was like, you don't. You don't. I don't want to. I literally go, that that it was that was when I was on that panel at the end. How do we get more people to come? How do we make it bigger? And I was like, you don't. I said, this is exact. I said, look around, dude. You've already done it. Yeah, you've already made it. This is exactly what Brian, mine and Brian and Jason's conference looks like and y'all did a fucking great job. Right. Like, stop thinking you have to be, you know, the thousand-person conference with a huge trade show and this, that, and the other. Like, you've already done it. Was this their first year? No, they've been doing this for 13 years. Wow. That's good. And they're dying to have Brian B next year. We've been talking.

You go all the way through the whole thing, which is pretty large. At the very end, there's actually a vault door. Open the door, and it's got this massive space in the back that's completely soundproofed to an extent. I mean, it's not soundproof technically, but you brick, you can't hear anything. And this room was super cool. Now, this photo is from the back of the room. You can't really tell, but we only had about 30 people in there. Most of what they did was online based, trying to drive people to online stuff. Right. But the people who were there, I mean, they shot it well. Nate was Nelson was from LaForest was doing the stream. Yeah, they produced it really well. Like, I can't say enough good things about the things happen. Yeah, then night one, any of the VIPs got to be a part of a rooftop experience and play live, yeah. In front of this, I mean, this picture doesn't do it justice. It was incredible space. Yeah, a lot of these guys, it was the first time they've maybe some of them were bedroom DJs, I don't really know, but like you could tell some of them were nervous playing in front of DJs, they crushed. Second day, they went into the other part of the same room. It was a completely different room, but within that same back space. They were at Riot Ranch. Oh, yeah, yeah. What a cool setup for them. Yeah. Jamie, who was the planner, did the uh first you know, set of the night. Yeah, I saw some of the stream. It looked sick. It was amazing. People were going nuts in there. I mean, look at the lighting on there. I was, yeah. You know, I did my uh Irish exit about 11:30, right? You know, um, but then the thing I loved about this, the takeaway I got was the next slide, these little balls that are kind of they look like bubbles, but they were way uh whiter than clear bubbles. Oh, yeah, yeah.

Right. And traveling like I did, where you skip 13 time zones, it will fuck you up if you're not prepared. And these supplements are supposed to get you like leveled out to the point where on your on your phone, on the app that comes with it, it'll be like take two sustain and one restore. Then a couple hours later, take one of these and one of these. Two hours later, put on your these like these circadian rhythm glasses, dark orange, so everything looks like it's dusk now. And it starts putting your brain into the mode of going to sleep, even though it was three o'clock in the afternoon. Right. Because we left that morning out of Atlanta. And it's like, and now it's done by the location you're going to. Now take two melatonin. Now try and take a nap for at least a couple of hours, or at the very least, shut off the movies, shut off your laptop, like try act like you're going to sleep. Did you do it? Yeah. I mean, I tried. I don't sleep well on planes no matter what. And I had the bed that costs more than a Honda Accord. Like I'm telling you. Like I could have bought it. Oh, I'm aware. Those things are not that cheap. And I just don't sleep well, man. I don't sleep well. But I tried and I did everything. And dude, when we got to Tokyo, we didn't crash out. Yeah. It was let's call it three or four in the afternoon. We walked around for two or three hours. We had some dinner, and then we went to bed at when people in Tokyo usually go to bed. What did this cost? Um, I don't know. This was an Ashley purchase. And it was another thing we were wearing because man, that deep vein thrombosis, like from not moving, you know, you get a blood clot in your leg, it shoots up to your heart. Screw it you're dead.

What are you seeing is the changes you're seeing in wedding clients shopping for DJs now that most weddings are Gen Z. I mean, I guess the first thing for me, just from the very first touch point, is just immediate, you know, they want immediate information. They want immediate pricing, immediate this, that, and the other. And when you're dealing in volume like we are, we give it to them. You know, we use Craig Loftus' lead excess system. Again, I'm, you know, I have a lot of mouths to feed. I don't think it's very good for somebody like Marty, probably, but lead excess is getting them information quicker than we ever could. And I think it could be one of the reasons that we're up this year. So shout out Craig with Lead XS. Uh, he's gonna be here at the DJ Collective. If you want to meet him and talk about it, he's gonna be here. Um the other thing I'm seeing is that it there is an overwhelming emphasis on we just want to party. The formalities are completely out the window. Uh, we haven't seen a bouquet toss, Carter toss in forever. We haven't seen naming every person walking into the room during introductions in forever. We, you know, the ceremonies are 15 minutes. Like it is let's get to the freaking party. And I'm I'm okay with that. Right. As as somebody that's a party DJ and only wants that as well, I I'm here for it, man. How does that affect though them shopping or DJs? Um, they're very hyper-specific about that. They they need to know that you can mix. That they're they're uh, you know, they're kind of beating around the bush saying it like, what style are you? Or you know, do you mix? Or, you know, they'll send videos of of you know viral people that we know, and like you know, like they're sending stuff that I'm like, they don't know a world without DJs being able to mix. Right. You know, whereas when we first started, uh a lot of guys from me didn't mix, they were just channel fans. Right, right, right, right. Play the whole song, this, that, and the other. I mean, that is out the window. Right. If you have not uh progressed from that and you're you know my age or older and still DJing, you're in trouble. Right. You're you're gonna get laughed out of these these Gen Z weddings. Yeah. I mean, I'm sorry. I I just I don't you can say, oh, I'm the hot shit MC and I everybody knows me. If you're gonna keep playing that way and not progress, you you're you're fucked. I'm sorry. Would you agree? Yeah.

They still want to know that their money is going to go far and that they are using that money wisely. So you have to explain just like you would 20 years ago, sure, the value of what you're doing.
